Flight Training

Our Instructors

Our talented instructors are passionate teachers and full-time aviators with one simple goal: help our students become great pilots..

Alex Gustafson - CFI, Tailwheel

AlexAlex grew up on Vashon Island, Washington, where he caught the flying bug early. He began flying at the age of 15, and learned how to fly in a Piper J3 Cub. After that introduction, with the love of flight firmly established, he decided to make a career of flying. He attended the University of North Dakota's John D. Odegard School of Aerospace Science, where he received his degree in Unmanned Aircraft Systems Operations. After graduating, Alex moved to the Gorge. Once settled, flight instruction seemed the next obvious continuation of his career path. When he's not in the air teaching or flying for fun, look for him out and about exploring the Gorge, hiking, or searching out somewhere new to kayak.

Brett Zefting - CFI, CFII, MEI, Tailwheel, A&P

BrettBefore discovering the miracles of flight, Brett was living happily ever after as a collegiate rock and ice climbing instructor in upstate NY. After one flight in a small plane, an all-encompassing passion for all things airborne began. (His wife will probably never forgive her dad for the first flight that sunk the hook, but quick transportation to destinations unknown is perk that softens the addiction.) After a brief stint testing his wings in upstate NY, Brett moved back to the Pacific Northwest to take advantage of the thriving aviation community where he has grown as both a professional and a recreational pilot. When not in the air teaching or flying for fun, look for Brett wrenching in the hanger as an A&P, or flying off to a pancake breakfast to commune with local pilots.
